CARO Events

Russell Group Alumni Drinks in the Union at Leeds - last few places remaining
Wednesday 7 September
If you live in or around Leeds, make sure you come to this exclusive networking event, starting at 6pm in the Terrace Bar, Leeds University Union Building. Meet up with old friends as well as alumni from all Russell Group universities over drinks and nibbles.

Places are limited and booking is essential - book your place online

 

Alumni Weekend 2011
Friday 23 September – Sunday 25 September
Booking for the 21st Alumni Weekend closed on Friday 5 August. Booking will re-open online between 15 – 22 September. All lectures are currently available, but some tour places may be limited.

Bank of Santander, Madrid Alumni reception in Madrid with the Vice-Chancellor
Tuesday 15 November
All alumni living in Spain or visiting Madrid are invited to attend an alumni event on Tuesday 15 November, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz.

 

The event will take place at the Bank of Santander's high-tech headquarters, set in the rolling countryside just outside the capital, Madrid.

 

The Painted Hall, London Olympic Celebration Dinner, The Painted Hall, London - register your interest
Saturday 12 May 2012
Booking will open shortly for the Olympic Celebration Dinner; an elegant black tie event to be held in the magnificent Painted Hall, Old Royal Naval College, London.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, will be in attendance, along with a number of Cambridge Olympians and VIPs to honour sporting achievement and mark the forthcoming Olympics.

Have you competed in the Olympics? We are keen that our records of Olympic competitors are up-to-date, so if you are an Olympian, please email us and let us know which sport you competed in and when. If you have a particular story to tell, we'd love to hear from you!

 



Coming up in Cambridge this autumn

 

Literary Britten: a Recital
Sunday 4 September
This is a very special opportunity to hear a recital of songs and poems by Benjamin Britten and WH Auden, before the programme is taken on a European tour. Cardiff Singer of the World, tenor Andrew Kennedy, is joined by award winning actor Alex Jennings, and pianist and Radio 3 personality Iain Burnside.

The programme includes a world premiere song cycle written for the occasion by young composer Tim Watts. The recital starts at 2pm and is taking place in Girton College Hall. Tickets £15/10 available online

 

Festival of Ideas Festival of Ideas
19 - 30 October
Cambridge Festival of Ideas, the UK's only arts, humanities and social sciences festival, runs from 19 to 30 October with over 160 free events for all ages. Highlights include debates on the Arab Spring and Wikileaks, and a workshop with children's book author and illustrator, Nick Sharratt. Bookings open 5 September.

University of Cambridge iPhone app University launches iPhone app
Want to stay up-to-date with news and events from within the University through your iPhone? The new University of Cambridge app enables you to do just that. Free to download through the iTunes store, the iPhone app contains a news feed on the latest research news from Cambridge and an events service that lists exhibitions, festivals and other activities happening across the University.

 

An interactive map features University departments, Colleges and other places of interest. Users can also access videos and audio media through the app, including the Cambridge Ideas series of films and other content located on the University's YouTube and iTunesU channels. In addition to these functions, iPhone users can search and explore Cambridge's library collections.

Alumni Travel Programme

 

St Petersburg Visit St Petersburg this winter
Join Cambridge alumni on a trip to St Petersburg this February when the snow makes everything picturesque and the city looks magnificent. Throughout the six-day visit there will be two visits to the Hermitage with its hundreds of glittering, gilded rooms and its unrivalled collection of European and Russian art.

Hurtigruten offer
Hurtigruten, who are running our Polar Nights and Mystical Northern Lights trip to Norway in February 2012, have offered Cambridge and Oxford alumni the opportunity to visit one of their ships, the MS Fram, which will be docked in Portsmouth on Friday 30 September. Space for this visit is limited: to book your place, please email us. We are also planning a new trip with Hurtigruten to Greenland in June 2012.
