Pioneering Cambridge Campaign reaches record US $2 billion

The University has just announced that the 800th Anniversary fundraising Campaign has been completed with the total raised for the Colleges and the University exceeding US$2 billion, the largest fundraising total ever announced by a European university. More information can be found online

Cambridge Sporting Celebration Dinner
Saturday 12 May 2012
This elegant dinner in the spectacular surroundings of the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College , Greenwich will be a chance to honour Cambridge sporting achievement.

Alumni and guests are invited to a drinks reception and a three-course dinner featuring some fabulous theatre at tables hosted by Cambridge Olympians and sporting greats. This is a unique opportunity to meet athletes from a wide range of sports in an awe-inspiring venue.

Cambridge Global Alumni Conference, Hong Kong
Saturday 14 - Sunday 15 April 2012
Alumni living in or visiting Asia are invited to attend the first Cambridge Global Alumni Conference in Hong Kong .

On 14 April, alumni are invited to join the Vice-Chancellor and Professor Dame Jean Thomas together with an array of distinguished academics for a thought provoking day of discussion, lectures and networking.

On 15 April, Alumni Group leaders and representatives are invited to the Alumni Groups Leadership Conference. This day is specifically designed for alumni involved in running the global network of more than 400 volunteer-led groups.

Cambridge Wordfest
Sunday 27 November

The Cambridge Wordfest Winter Festival is back this year with a vibrant and varied programme of literary treats.

Many tickets have already been snapped up, but there is still availability for several events, including alumnus David Baddiel (King's 1983) in conversation with Suzi Feay on his work and local author Ali Smith on the story behind her dazzling new novel There but for the.

Christmas at the Botanic Garden
Monday 28 November - Thursday 22 December
This year you can pre-book a lunch-time table at the Garden Cafe and bring family, friends or colleagues to enjoy a special Christmas lunch.

All locally sourced where possible and freshly prepared, the specialities include red onion tart to start followed by a rolled escalope of turkey with a cranberry stuffing. Round off the celebration with a walk around the Garden to offset the chocolate brownie for dessert!

The Christmas lunch menu is available to pre-booked groups only - please telephone the Garden Cafe direct on 01223 763425 to reserve your table. Normal Garden admission charges apply.

How languages are built
A team of Cambridge linguists has embarked on an ambitious project to identify how the languages of the world are built – from Inuit Yupik to sub-Saharan Bantu, from Navajo to Nepalese.

News from Departments, Clubs and Societies

Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture will be celebrating its Centenary Year next year (1912-2012). They will be hosting a series of events during the year ranging from high profile research seminars to an end-of-year exhibition and conference. The Department will create a dedicated space on its website to announce the dates for Centenary activities.

Cambridge Judge Business School
Drawing on up-to-the-minute research and led by Cambridge Judge Business School faculty, the 2011/2012 Business Briefing programme is back for a second series, examining what continues to be a rapidly changing business environment.

Registrations are now open for Professor Peter Williamson's briefing on 'The Rise of Chinese Offshore M&A: What it Means for the Next Round of Global Competition' in London at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business on Thursday 15 December 2011. To register visit the CJBS website

Thursday 8 December

This December, Heffers Bookshop and Heffers Sound are offering alumni the chance to shop in style at a special after-hours event, exclusive to alumni.
